Accuplacer

If you are seeking a degree and/or a certificate, or if you are taking any math or English courses or a course requiring a math or English prerequisite you must take the ACCUPLACER test which assesses  your writing, reading and math skills. (Read an introduction to the Accuplacer test with information about how to take the test over the internet.)

Assessment is not initially required if:

  1. You have completed college level English Composition and Intermediate Algebra at an accredited college or university, within the past five years with a grade of 2.0 or higher. You must have completed both subjects to be exempt from assessment. Submit your unofficial college transcripts or grade reports to the Enrollment Services at the time of application.

  2. You have earned a B.A., B.S., or A.A. Degree. Submit an unofficial copy of your transcript or a copy of your diploma.

  3. If you have taken the ACCUPLACER at another college within the past two years submit official copies of your scores to the Enrollment Services Office.

Accuplacer testing is generally offered on a walk-in basis. An advance appointment is not necessary. Simply come to the appointment counter on the first floor of Lynnwood Hall and ask to sign up for assessment testing. If you have not previously filled out the Admissions application, you will be required to do so and pay the admission fee of $19.30. You will also need to bring photo identification with you.

Your scores and class placement are immediately available upon completion of the test. Advising is available for students taking the Accuplacer test at posted times throughout the day. If registration for the upcoming quarter has begun and if you are a new student, you may be able to register for classes immediately after the assessment process has been completed.
